How the brain heals

Norman Doidge has just released his new book called 'The Brain's way to Healing'.  It is a great read and he highly recommend Feldenkrais and Anat Baniel work for healing the brain.

He has a chapter that explains what Feldenkrais and Anat Baniel Method do for the brain of adults and special needs children. It is well worth reading.

I give FI and FS lessons in Calgary in my office 105-7370 Sierra Morena Blvd.SW.  Phone me if you want to discuss Feldenkrais or Anat Baniel Method or if you want to book a session.

My phone number is 403-919-1881 and my email is susinn@gmail.com

movement and the brain

People often ask what I do.  I tell them that I use movement to change the brain.  But it is specific movement: movement with attention, slow movement, subtle movement, movement with lots of variation, movement with attention, movement without goals.  These are the essentials for neuromovement.  Anat Baniel has called these aspects of movement the 'essentials'.

Did you know that a lot of the brain is busy with movement.  This makes a great opportunity to access the brain through movement!

I am in Calgary and have an office where I see children and adults and I give Feldenkrais and Anat Baniel Method lessons.

Good book about CP and the Feldenkrais Method

I just finished reading 'Ways out of Cerebral Palsy During Infancy and Early Childhood' by Paul Doron Doroftei. He gives a good description of what it feels like to be inside his body and what his experience was when he got lessons from Dr. Moshe Feldenkrais.

Anat Baniel Method for Children

The Anat Baniel Method helps children and adults move beyond limits and into the world of possibilities. Through learning to connect to ourselves in meaningful ways one can realize their potential.

Anat Baniel Method was developed out of the Feldenkrais Method.  After Dr. Feldenkrais's death in 1984, Anat Baniel continued to develop the work into what is now called the Anat Baniel Method.

To learn more read Anat Baniel's books 'Kids Beyond Limits' and 'Move into Life'.

Feldenkrais and Back Pain

Here is a link to video Fariya Doctor posted. She is a Feldenkrais practitioner in Ontario. It is a great explanation of how the Feldenkrais Method can help someone with back pain.

Parasitic movement

Moshe Feldenkrais coined the word ‘parasitic movement’ to describe movement that a person does that interferes with our intended movement or function. We all do parasitic movements all the time and we are not aware that we are doing them.  If we were aware of them we wouldn’t do them because they create resistance, excess effort and in most cases pain.

When we gradually peel away these parasitic movements by bringing awareness to them,  our actions become easier, more elegant and we can perform at a much higher level of achievement.  If that sounds appealing, it should. Who doesn’t want to reclaim our youthful easy movement and find all the possibility that lies in expanded awareness.  It is there for everyone; underneath all our habitual parasitic actions!
